You can see it coming a mile off, but it’s still a pretty good story. There’s a doll, there’s a little girl, there’s the girl’s practical no-ghost-believing-mamma, what could go wrong? 

It actually had an interesting segment on Santeria in it, which was very interesting (though it was clumsily introduced). My biggest problem with the story was the sheer annoyance factor of the child character here. I. Hated. Her. Some children just need a spanking, and to do what they’re goddamn told… If she’d gotten one of those things, the entire story wouldn’t have happened. 

I can accept the child being portrayed was “at a difficult age”, but you really should make her so annoying that when she starts to drown, the reader is ashamed to hope she actually will.
