Thoughts:
This story is GREAT! There’s a subtle sense of wrongness through the whole thing that can be attributed to many different causes but only ever grows, keeping your attention and thrilling you with every turn.
Also, this book didn’t try to over explain the story. We didn’t cut scene to some ancient witch’s cauldron buried deep in the water, or else some nuclear power plant whose runoff contaminated the lake. It’s left unexplained because it doesn’t really matter.
This, by the way, is how (in my opinion) you use free download marketing right! This story is complete, and is a free excerpt from an anthology called ‘The Monster’s Corner’. I haven’t read the anthology, so I’m not recommending it, but based on this story it’s gone on my wishlist. To any who are thinking of using this publishing tool themselves: this is how to do it.
