Title: No Way Out - And Other Scary Short Stories
Author: MJA Ware
Number of Pages: 42
Publication Type: Short Story Collection + Novel Preview
Summary:
Three ultra short (<6 pages each) scary short stories, young protagonists and first person style. Extended novel preview that I did not read because I object to them.
Star Rating: 4/5
Thoughts:
Short stories are great, and these really take use that to their advantage. They stay on message, don’t waste time getting to the plot, and keep things simple. The “voice” of the main character feels more or less the same in each, however. While not the screaming, afraid of the dark level of horror, each story delivers a nice chill at the end. While not spectacular, these stories are very competent and solidly executed, and the author shows a lot of promise with genre work.

As I recently received my first ever Ask, and that Ask was asking me to review a specific story, I thought I might as well make a public post about this.
If your story/novella/novel is FREE, as in it costs $0.00, then I would be more than happy to give it an honest review. Just drop me an ask with the pertinent info, preferably title and author’s name so I can find it in the Kindle shop, and I’ll download it and get to it as soon as reasonably possible.
Also, you know, say “Hi” or something. Because an ask that ONLY contains a title and author’s name is a little ominous. :P
Merry Readings,
Thrifty
PS— Well, I do only review free things, and “Thrifty” sounds nicer than “Cheapskate”
EDIT: I would really appreciate it if these stories were available through the Kindle store. It’s not a requirement, but it would be appreciated. Then I don’t have to tell other people where to download it, etc.
EDIT: I would really like it
Title: The Best Ghost Stories
Author: Various
Number of Pages: 197
Publication Type: Short Story Collection
Summary:
Ghost stories from literary greats (like Kipling!) to people I’ve never heard of before. All a very long time ago, primarily set in the late 1800s.
Star Rating: 5/5
Thoughts:
These stories are tame to someone accustomed to modern horror. They are not all stories meant to frighten, and the great humor in “The Rival Ghosts”, for example, is one of the best ghost stories I’ve ever read. Taken all together, this is an excellent story collection for a patient reader who enjoys milder supernatural thrills.

Title: Aesop’s Fables
Author: Aesop obviously
Number of Pages: 125
Publication Type: Short Story Collection
Summary:
Stories about animals behaving like people and people behaving like animals! Complete with talking pots and thinly veiled morals that often have the moral summed up at the end! And also just some stories that don’t really make a lot of sense. They are all very short and pretty harsh. Often they end in the death of the foolish animal/man.
Star Rating: 5/5
Thoughts: What’s there not to love? Trust me, everyone needs to be reminded of these truths now and then, and they’re not just stories for children. “Give assistance, not advice, in a crisis.” “A man is judged by the company he keeps.” And many less well known but equally important adages. Still as relevant today as they were in Greece all those years ago! Get ‘em while they’re still incredibly old!
